What is Pathways from Re-Offending?
Pathways from Re-Offending offers high quality recognised training
in graphic design and media to selected prisoners approaching release.
At the end of their sentences, trainees continue the programme at
the Trust’s West London training centre where they are guided
through the 3 main software packages used in the industry: QuarkXPress,
Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop.
Alongside this, learners will be assigned a mentor for personal development.
They will be guided back into employment by staff who have an expert
knowledge of the industry and an understanding of the barriers to
employment and further training faced after leaving prison.
The Steps
to Success...
• As part of the programme, learners are involved in producing
a supplement to our in-house newspaper, using design, writing, editorial
and layout skills developed on the Course.
• Staff seek to arrange external work placements with relevant
employers. Commissioned work can be undertaken by prisoners, allowing
for the receipt of “subsidised wages” while still training.
The Ultimate Aim...
The project aims to give all learners the skills and confidence to
enter the world of work with the up-to-date commercial skills required
in the Graphic Design, Publishing and associated industries. Participants
wanting to continue with further training can benefit from a specially
negotiated fast track agreement onto a formal degree course at the
London College of Communication (University of the Arts, London).
